Diamond certification

Diamonds are precious and valuable gemstones, but no two diamonds are alike. Every diamond is graded for its Cut, Clarity, Colour and Carat (the 4Cs) so you can be confident you’re making the right investment. All diamonds sold by diamondport are certified and come with a diamond certificate, diamond grading report or diamond quality document.

A diamond certificate highlights the findings of the analysis carried out by an industry-standard laboratory such as the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). GIA is one of the most highly regarded laboratories in the diamond trade, and every aspect of a diamond is considered in the certification process. The size, clarity, colour, cut, polish, angles, dimensions, and fluorescence of diamonds are reviewed under microscope and by trained diamond professionals before a certification will be made.

You should be wary of diamond certificates from unknown or smaller laboratories, as these may be meaningless. You should insist on a reputable diamond report from an established diamond laboratory before buying diamond rings or diamond jewellery.

Among the leading certification experts are GIA, AGS (American Gemological Society), IGI (International Gemmological Institute), and HRD Antwerp (Institute of Gemmology).

diamondport only sells GIA certified diamonds

Established in 1931, GIA has built its reputation for grading diamonds based on unbiased systems, extensive research and knowledge, and thorough examination.

GIA uses specialist diamond analysis equipment and understanding to identify the particular characteristics of each diamond. A pioneering diamond laboratory, GIA has been responsible for many of the breakthroughs in gemmology and diamond certification. These include developing the D-to-Z colour scale for diamonds and the Flawless to I3 clarity rankings, and creating a system for grading diamond cut quality accurately.
